Rotating Beam Fatigue Testing With RR Moore

For basic flexural fatigue testing of metals, the RR Moore rotating beam testing system is an economical solution for both educational and industry environments. In this type of test, the surface material of the specimen is subject to the greatest amount of stress, and therefore is useful when studying fatigue properties of surface treatments or coatings.

As the earliest fatigue testing machine of its kind, this mechanical style system applies flexural stress through the use of dead weights as the specimen rotates. In turn, the narrow-most point on the circular test piece is subjected to a sinusoidal stress amplitude from tension on the top to compression on the bottom with each rotation.

A digital counter tracks each cycle to a maximum of 99,999,999 cycles, and the speed of the system can be adjusted from 500-10,000 rpm. Once the specimen reaches failure, the system automatically shuts down (operator's manual shut down is not necessary). An optional furnace system is available for high temperature operation from 500-1800° F.
